About the owner

Bill Overholt: From Sales Leader to Champion for Tired, Happy Dogs

After 22 years in sales leadership at Johnson & Johnson, building a reputation for driving results, mentoring teams, and creating customer-first strategies, Bill Overholt was ready for a new chapter.

Wanting to give back to the greater Clifton Park community he has called home for over two decades, Bill began volunteering at a local animal shelter. He was struck by a heartbreaking reality - countless dogs were missing out on adoption simply because they lacked basic obedience training. Determined to make a difference, Bill found his calling.

Bill partnered with ZOOM ROOM, a relatively unknown dog training franchise founded in 2007 and headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. With over 50 locations across the United States and only one in New York State (Chelsea/Manhattan), Bill saw an opportunity to bring ZOOM ROOM’s proven training model to the Capital district.

As the Managing Director & Owner of the Clifton Park franchise, Bill has embraced the company’s core philosophy: “We don’t train dogs. We train the people who love them.” Under his leadership, ZOOM ROOM CLIFTON PARK has become a welcoming space where dog owners gain the skills to confidently train their pets using positive reinforcement methods, fostering a stronger bond, better behavior, and a happier, well-mannered companion.

Beyond training, Bill is committed to supporting his community. He partners with local shelters and rescues, offering free training to help shelter/rescue dogs increase their chances of adoption and find their forever homes. His approach has made ZOOM ROOM CLIFTON PARK a hub for dog lovers, offering puppy socialization, obedience training, agility, and enrichment programs - all designed to create the ultimate goal: a Tired, Happy Dog.

With a passion for animal welfare and an unwavering commitment to his community, Bill Overholt has transformed his business into a place where both dogs and their owners thrive - one wagging tail at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Sign up?

At the Zoom Room, we don’t train dogs. We train the people who love them. We’ve redefined dog training, with classes specially designed to build confidence and success as dogs master skills in a simple, step-by-step process.

We utilize only positive dog training methods, which your entire family can easily master and embrace. You will be actively engaged in your dog’s training, working as a team as you learn to communicate more effectively with your dog. So what you learn at the Zoom Room doesn’t have to stay at the Zoom Room. Behaviors will naturally transition to life at home with your dog.

Our indoor dog training gym offers small group classes in agility, obedience, puppy and socialization classes with the best dog trainers in Clifton Park, NY. Private, one-on-one training scheduled to your convenience is also available.

Your dog training journey always begins with either an Orientation or an Evaluation.

How Do you classes work?

We offer small group classes, special workshops, and private training. Before attending any services at the Zoom Room, we will need a copy of your dog’s current vaccination records.

GROUP CLASSES. We use a Levels system in our classes. You work at your own pace, and graduate to the next level when you and your dog are ready to move up. You can attend class as frequently as you like, or skip a week or two if your schedule changes. You’ll never fall behind because everyone in class is at the same level working on the same skills.

ORIENTATIONS & EVALUATIONS
Most clients start at Basic Manners after attending an Orientation, and will be “graduated” to the next level when the instructor determines the dog and handler have mastered the skills needed to move on. Orientation is a free half-hour session you attend without your dog.

If your dog is already past basic obedience, you can schedule a half-hour private Evaluation to place out of beginner classes. The Evaluation will allow us to ascertain your dog’s current skill level and get you right into the level where you belong.

If you have concerns about behavioral issues, you should also book an Evaluation.

If you have a puppy, you don’t need an Evaluation; start with an Orientation.

If you book an Evaluation you do NOT need to attend Orientation.

If you don’t see an Orientation session on the schedule at a time convenient to you, please call us as we can usually work to accommodate your schedule.

WORKSHOPS. Unlike group classes, which you can take at any day/time they are offered, Workshops occur at the same time on the same day of the week for a specified number of weeks – usually three or six, and you must attend each session, in order. Some Workshops, like advanced classes, have prerequisites. If you haven’t already done so, you will need to schedule either an Orientation or Evaluation prior to attending your first Workshop.

PRIVATE TRAINING. We offer one-on-one private training in all disciplines for one or two dogs. No Orientation or Evaluation is needed.

What Kind of puppy classes do you offer?

Puppy Preschool, Puppy Obedience, Puppy Agility, Puppy Pup-lates® and Private Puppy Training. The first four are group classes which are ideal as they provide not only instruction but also socialization opportunities. Private sessions are great if you find yourself needing some extra help with obedience or other issues.

To get started with puppy classes, please schedule an Orientation; puppies don’t need an Evaluation.

can you help me house break my Puppy

Yes. Puppy Preschool includes instruction on how to implement a housebreaking plan. But no, we don’t do housecalls if that’s what you were wondering.

My Puppy Doesn's have all its shots, Isnt that dangerous?

We have created safety and sanitation protocols at the Zoom Room that meet and exceed all industry standards, specifically to foster a safe, healthful environment for all of our guests, especially the wee ones who have yet to have all their shots. We take every imaginable precaution for the health and safety of your puppy. These precautions include:

  • Every adult dog that attends the Zoom Room is fully vaccinated. We require written proof from all owners.
  • The entire facility and all equipment is thoroughly sanitized with veterinary-grade disinfectants immediately prior to Puppy Preschool.
  • All puppies are required to have verified vaccinations commensurate with age.
  • We regularly swab and test our floors, equipment and reception area surfaces to test bacterial loads, conforming to the most exacting standards. You simply will not find this attention to detail in any other training facility.
  • We require that puppies who attend the Zoom Room do not visit dog parks or dog day cares until they have received full vaccinations.
  • Your puppy is supervised at all times by a qualified dog trainer.

And we do all of this because we firmly believe that early socialization is critical to the healthy, happy development of your puppy. We want your puppy to come Zoom with us – so we pull out all stops to make it as safe as possible for him to do so.

Learn more about the importance of early socialization and the American Veterinarian Society of Animal Behavior’s recommendations for providing socialization in a safe group setting prior to receiving full vaccinations.

Can my dog participate in group classes
We like a safe and happy environment. All dogs must be fully vaccinated, healthy and social with both humans and other dogs to enroll in group classes (if you need us to define “social,” chances are your dog is not). If your dog doesn’t play well with others, you can enroll in private lessons. Dogs displaying aggressive behavior during ANY class will be asked to leave. If you have questions regarding this policy please speak to one of our trainers.
what is clicker training?
A clicker for training dogs is simply a noisemaker that emits a very distinctive clicking sound when pressed. The concept behind clicker training is simple: a clicker tells the animal “That’s right!” more effectively and efficiently than we can with our voices. The click is different from other common sounds, and easily recognized by animals. When a click is followed by a reward (like a fish for a dolphin or a cookie for a dog), the animal learns very quickly that a click is a good thing, and begins to try to pinpoint what behavior earned the click/reward. Clicker training works great when dogs are learning new behaviors, because it tells them exactly when they are engaging in the right behavior. Dogs only have about 1.6 seconds to match a behavior with a consequence (as in, “Oh! Sitting gets me a cookie!”), so teaching new behaviors can be challenging. If you don’t “mark” the behavior fast enough, the dog may think that he is being rewarded for sniffing the floor, for example, and not for lying down. Clicker training drastically speeds up the learning process by giving your dog precise feedback.
